Rosia Montana was a centre for gold mining since the age of Herodot and was known in the roman era as Alburnus Maior.
Here we have kilometers long gold mine galleries build by the Romans 2000 years.
In order to access the 300m of galleries arranged for visits, you need to go down almost 200 stairs.
The galleries that can be visited are partially electrified and your tour will be conducted by a guide.
Near the galleries there is an open air museum that hosts traditional mining tools like “stemp” (ore mills similar to the water mills) and a Gold Mining History Museum presenting through photographs the mining history of the local people in the 1900.
Going through Rosia Montana will enchant us with the sight of the old houses from the past century, allowing us to see o glimpse of the city’s past.
